Performance Mentoring Programme (PMP)

Musa Hussain

Musa comes from a very non-horsey background. The first time he took an interest in riding, he was five-years-old and living in New Zealand with his family; he asked his mum for riding lessons out of the blue and was persistent for a few months until he started at a riding school where he rode until moving back to the UK.

Riding lessons were then off the agenda due to cost so Musa didn’t ride again until he was 10 when he attended Hillcroft Farm Riding School and had weekly lessons. Being homeschooled meant he was able to work at the riding school five days a week and do schoolwork on an evening.

At 14 he got his first horse, Wisdom of Zorro, progressing from unaffiliated 70cm show cross to intermediate and 2*L when Musa was 16. During this time he had started having lessons with Chris McGrann who became his mentor, teaching so much about not only riding but also horsemanship on the ground, turnout, grooming etc.

Musa is currently a work rider for Harry Meade and has been for a year now. Last season was a valuable learning experience and he hopes to build on this in the 2025 season to keep pushing towards the ultimate dream of winning Burghley.
