Barnie Brotherton

After many fun and educational years with the Cotswold Vale Farmers Hunt Pony Club, Barnie followed his passion for horses and competing. He enrolled with the Haddon Training Apprenticeship in Equestrian Sporting Excellence Programme in 2018, when he was 16.

Initially based with Vittoria Panizzon, and then for three years as a work and competition rider for Harry Meade, Barnie gained valuable knowledge before moving back home in 2022 to his parents freshly bought farm near Broadway, Worcestershire. There he set up an equestrian business.

Barnie’s achievements include competing for the Central U18’s teams in 2019, being long listed for the Young Rider European teams in 2021 and 2022, and riding in the Burghley Young Horse Championships 2022. This year he contested the Young Rider Europeans in Montelibretti and ended his season with an 11th place finish in the 4*L in Lignieres.

He hopes to step up to 5* in 2024 with Cash Casino, and admits he is extremely lucky to have a fantastic family support network at home.
